Two mobile wood-fired saunas run by Thunder Domes at North Avenue Beach each winter, the Chicago Park District's first winter sauna concession on the lakefront.

More about Fire and Ice Sauna Experience

The saunas are off-grid and burn wood pellets, with a heated dome between them for changing. There is no plunge into Lake Michigan; instead you cool off by pouring buckets of cold water over yourself between rounds.

Reservations are required, and groups can rent both saunas privately. The season runs from November through March, so check the operator's page for current dates.
