A Russian-style steam bath in Chelsea dating to 1885, with a granite-rock hot room that reaches about 180°F on the upper benches, a wet steam room and the traditional oak-leaf platza.

More about Dillon's Russian Steam Bath

Dillon's is an old-school neighborhood bathhouse rather than a polished spa. Admission covers two hours in the hot room, where the stove is loaded with granite rocks, and in a separate wet steam room, with showers, a lounge with a big TV and a small snack bar for breaks between rounds.

The signature extra is the platza: a masseur brushes you down with a broom of oak leaves and oil, and longer oil rubs are also offered. Most days are men only, and Monday afternoons and evenings are reserved for women. Bring cash, since cards are not accepted, and parking is available behind the building on Cherry Street.
